Bradford was once the wool capital of the world, and the wealth that trade created left behind some of the most impressive Victorian architecture in Britain. Today it's a city of culture, creativity and incredible buildings, with a confidence that's impossible to miss.
The Bradford colouring book from Britain in Lines celebrates that character in calm, considered line work.
About Bradford
In the 19th century, Bradford's mills made it one of the richest cities in the country. Merchants built grand warehouses in the area now known as Little Germany, and the city filled with ornate civic buildings, theatres and churches.
Bradford has since become known for its creativity. It was named the world's first UNESCO City of Film, and it was UK City of Culture in 2025. Just outside the city, the model village of Saltaire is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Bradford landmarks to colour
City Hall
Bradford's City Hall is a Victorian Gothic landmark, with a tall clock tower inspired by the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence and a facade lined with carved statues of monarchs. It overlooks City Park and its mirror pool.
The Alhambra Theatre
With its distinctive domes and Edwardian elegance, the Alhambra is one of the most recognisable theatres in the north, and has been entertaining audiences since 1914.
Salts Mill
Built by Sir Titus Salt in the 1850s, Salts Mill was the heart of the model village of Saltaire. Today it's home to galleries, shops and a large collection of work by Bradford-born artist David Hockney.
Bradford Cathedral
Set on a hillside above the city centre, Bradford Cathedral is a peaceful place with centuries of history, and a lovely contrast to the grand Victorian buildings below.
The historic streets
From the warehouses of Little Germany to the city's grand Victorian terraces, Bradford's streets are full of architectural surprises.
Why Bradford is perfect for colouring
Bradford's buildings are rich in Victorian detail: towers, arches, carved figures and decorative stonework. That makes every page satisfying to work through slowly, whether you keep to the city's golden sandstone or let your imagination take over.
Inside the Bradford colouring book
