Known as the Capital of the Cotswolds, Cirencester is a market town of honey-coloured stone, busy squares and nearly two thousand years of history. Its grand parish church towers over the Market Place, and Roman roads still meet beneath its streets.
The Cirencester colouring book from Britain in Lines captures the town's warmth and charm in calm, considered line work.
About Cirencester
In Roman times, Cirencester was Corinium, one of the largest towns in Roman Britain. Centuries later it grew rich on Cotswold wool, and its merchants left their mark in the form of fine houses and one of the grandest parish churches in England.
Today Cirencester is a lively market town with a mix of independent shops, cafés and historic buildings, all built in the warm local stone that gives the Cotswolds their famous glow. On the edge of town, the vast Cirencester Park offers open parkland right on the doorstep.
Cirencester landmarks to colour
St John Baptist Church
One of the largest parish churches in England, St John Baptist is often called the Cathedral of the Cotswolds. Its tall tower and ornate three-storey south porch facing the Market Place are a highlight of the book.
The Corinium Museum
Home to one of the country's finest collections of Roman artefacts, including beautiful mosaics, the Corinium Museum tells the story of the town's Roman past.
The Corn Hall
On the Market Place, the Victorian Corn Hall is a reminder of Cirencester's long history as a market town, and still hosts markets and events today.
The Royal Agricultural University
Founded in 1845, the RAU is thought to be the oldest agricultural college in the English-speaking world, housed in impressive Gothic-style buildings.
The Abbey Gatehouse
The Norman gatehouse is one of the few surviving parts of Cirencester's medieval abbey, tucked away near the Abbey Grounds.
Why Cirencester is perfect for colouring
Cotswold stone is a colourist's dream. Its warm creams, golds and honey tones are lovely to layer, and the town's balanced architecture creates a calm, satisfying rhythm across the page.
