Newquay is where the Cornish coast opens up. Golden beaches, dramatic headlands and rolling Atlantic waves have made it Britain's best-known surf town, but there's much more to it than the surf, from its old fishing harbour to the grand hotels on the cliffs.
The Newquay colouring book from Britain in Lines captures the town's wide-open coastline in calm, design-led line work.
About Newquay
Newquay began as a small fishing village, built on the pilchard trade. On the headland, the little whitewashed Huer's Hut is a reminder of those days, when a lookout would raise the alarm as shoals of fish arrived in the bay.
The railway brought holidaymakers in the Victorian era, and grand hotels soon appeared along the cliffs. In the 20th century, surfers discovered the waves at Fistral, and Newquay has been the heart of British surfing ever since.
Newquay landmarks to colour
Fistral Beach
Famous around the world for its surf, Fistral is a wide sweep of sand backed by dunes and headlands. It's a dream to colour, with endless options for sky, sea and sunset.
Towan Island
Known simply as The Island, this rocky outcrop on Towan Beach has a house perched on top, connected to the mainland by a slender suspension bridge. It's one of the most photographed sights in Cornwall.
Newquay Harbour
The old fishing harbour is still home to working boats and pleasure craft, a sheltered, characterful corner of the town.
The Headland Hotel
Standing proudly above Fistral, this grand Victorian hotel is one of Newquay's most recognisable buildings, with its red brick, gables and turrets.
The lighthouse
Lighthouses always make striking colouring pages, standing tall and bold against the sea and sky.
Why Newquay is perfect for colouring
Newquay is all about big, bold coastal scenes. Play with Atlantic blues and turquoises, golden sand, green clifftops and the warm red of the Headland Hotel.
