At the far western tip of Cornwall, looking out across Mount's Bay to St Michael's Mount, Penzance is a town where everything slows down. Granite terraces, subtropical gardens, a working harbour and a famous Art Deco lido give it a character all of its own.
The Penzance colouring book from Britain in Lines captures that character, one page at a time.
About Penzance
Penzance has been a busy port and market town for centuries, trading in fish, tin and goods from across the world. The arrival of the railway in the 19th century brought visitors and artists, and the neighbouring fishing village of Newlyn became home to the celebrated Newlyn School of painters.
Today the town's historic streets, especially around Chapel Street, are full of independent shops, galleries and old inns, while the promenade stretches along the bay towards Newlyn.
Penzance landmarks to colour
Jubilee Pool
Opened in 1935, Jubilee Pool is a striking Art Deco seawater lido, its pale, angular shape jutting out into Mount's Bay. It's one of the most distinctive buildings in Cornwall and a joy to colour.
The Morrab Library
Set in the subtropical Morrab Gardens, the Morrab Library is an independent subscription library full of old books, maps and history, and a real hidden gem.
St John's Hall
A grand Victorian granite building in the town centre, St John's Hall is one of Penzance's most impressive civic landmarks.
Penlee House
Penlee House Gallery and Museum sits in a Victorian villa surrounded by parkland, and is home to an important collection of Newlyn School paintings.
The harbour
Boats of every size line Penzance harbour, with St Michael's Mount on the horizon. It's a scene that changes with every tide and every season.
Why Penzance is perfect for colouring
Penzance offers bold Art Deco shapes, solid granite architecture, lush gardens and colourful harbour life. Try the clear blues and turquoises of the bay, warm granite greys and the bright greens of the gardens.
Inside the Penzance colouring book
The book contains 20 hand-drawn illustrations of Penzance's streets, landmark buildings and coastal details, with open, uncluttered line work that's relaxing to colour. It's printed in the UK on thick 160gsm paper, wire-bound to lie flat, with a soft-touch cover, for £16.99.
It's also part of the Cornwall Coastal Collection with our Falmouth and Newquay books, for £34.99.
